CEO Josh Payne of Black Mesa Advanced Fission (BMAF) announced the nuclear reactor manufacturing start-up company around July 2023. Payne refers to their reactors as Portable Fission Generators that would be manufactured in Wyoming and tested in Nevada. Payne also stated that no fuel would be stored on site – he did not specify spent or unused nuclear fuel. Payne stated the energy produced from their reactors would be “sub 100 kilowatt scale”.
In a 2023 Fire2Fission podcast Payne states they expect to fire up their first reactor 4 years in the future, and to have approximately 5 units built 2 years after that.
BMAF registered with South Dakota Secretary of State on June 29, 2022, and in 2024 BMAF registered with Wyoming Secretary of State as a foreign LLC (2024-001438858).
