Nuclear Powered Data Center Projects in Wyoming

Key Data Center Projects and Partnerships
TerraPower’s Natrium plant is currently under construction in Kemmerer, WY:
    • Capacity: The 345 MW sodium-cooled reactor features a molten salt energy storage system that can boost output to 500 MW during peak demand.
    • Timeline: Non-nuclear construction began in June 2024, with the plant expected to be operational by 2030.
    • Impact: The proximity of this plant is expected to attract additional AI data centers to western Wyoming, as companies seek “behind the meter” carbon-free power to avoid overloading the public grid.

NOTE:

  • TerraPower still has an active MOU with Rock Mountain Power/PacifiCorp to analyze the potential for more nuclear powers plants at other coal plant sites scheduled for closure.
  • US SFR Owner, LLC (USO), a wholly owned subsidiary of TerraPower, LLC (TerraPower), and TerraPower as it pertains to the Construction Permit Application (CPA) for Kemmerer Power Station Unit 1 (read more here).
